e Awa te ara brings together 12 Ngāti Awa artists in a powerful return to the gallery space, alongside taonga from Te Whare Taonga o Taketake – Whakatāne Museum collection.
Artists include: Dr Turumakina Duley, Dr Zena Elliott, Lewis Gardiner, Glenda Hape, Sonny Hape, Joe Harawira, Takutaimoana Harawira, Te Marunui Hotene, Sarah Hudson, Erena Koopu, Kauri Wharewera, and Maia Wharewera-Ballard.
Drawing from the waiata tangi Te Tangi a Tamapāhore, the exhibition traces the ancestral pathways and explores how whakapapa and kōrero tuku iho continue to shape contemporary practice. Together, mahi toi and taonga are presented in conversation, across time, material, and perspective.
A significant exhibition at the heart of the gallery reopening.
