The Whakatāne District Museum’s origins date back to 1933. Today, the Council’s dedicated Museum and Arts team provides a public research service and access to the collection at the Whakatāne Museum and Research Centre.

The Whakatāne District Council is seeking funding support from the Ministry of Culture and Heritage for a major redevelopment of the Museum building. We are now inviting the community to help us create a lasting legacy for tomorrow’s enquiring minds.

Question 1. Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I had a sunny upbringing in Whakatāne surrounded by my Hudson whanau. At the end of my time at Whakatāne High School, I left to go to university in Wellington and lived and worked there for ten years. Last year I moved back to my hometown to be with family and start a wee whanau of my own.

The 1888-89 Natives Team were pioneers of the pre-match haka, the silver fern emblem and the black jersey, and an exciting style of play that would grow into the All Black legend.
