Education

We are currently developing our educational programmes for all levels. Although we are not able to offer any specific activities at this time we are more then happy to provide short guided tours to all school groups with prior notice.

Photographic Collection

We have over 20,000 photographs and negatives in our collections, which include significant original material and a rare set of glass plate negatives. We also have a limited computer database available for public use in the Museum Display area.

Collections

From 4 November 2009 our research facility will be available on a limited, and appointment only, basis on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from 1.00 – 4.00pm.

Museum Displays The Whakatane Museum has thousands of items in its collections which cover numerous areas including Taonga Maori, Social History, Visual Arts, Photography and Archives.

Our Taonga Maori collection includes significant examples from Ngati Awa, Ngai Tuhoe, Ngati Tuwharetoa, Ngati Rangitihi and Te Whakatohea as well as the Te Kohika collection comprising examples from one of the most important swamp excavations in New Zealand.

Publication fee	Publication fees will apply for every image reproduced from the collections and published in any way in the public domain (including reports, websites, exhibitions etc). The Manager Arts and Culture has the discretion to decide what publication requests will be processed with no publication fees. The scale of fees is: local history and education publications $12.50 per image or reproduction; commercial publications $112.50 per image or reproduction. A copy of all publications featuring the images from the Museum is to be deposited free of charge by the author in the HD London Library These fees are on top of any charges for scanning and photographic reproduction	.
Research fee	Use of the facilities will incur a part charge of $2 per day, or an annual charge of $25 per year. There will be no charge for the first half hour for research requests not made in person; subsequent hourly rate of $45.00 per hour (including GST) will be levied, with a minimum chargeable period of one hour and up to a maximum nominated by the customer. This charge is in addition to any charges for the photographic reproduction, photocopies and publication charges, which will be set at the normal rates. The curator collections will have the discretion to decide what constitutes a minor research enquiry that can be answered within normal working hours at no charge.	.
