

Welcome to the Whakatane District Museum and Gallery Te Whare Taonga o Te Rohe Whakatane. Our enthusiastic and highly skilled team, share a passion for bringing visitors an inspirational programme of social historical and culturally significant content.
Opened in 1972 the Whakatane District Museum and Gallery presents an ever changing programme of exhibitions which include items from our extensive collections as well as local, national and international artworks. We currently have 3 exhibition spaces; the Gallery, Museum Display and the Cabinet of Curiosities, which offer a range of viewing experiences.
The Whakatane Museum has thousands of items in its collections which cover numerous areas including Taonga Maori, Social History, Visual Arts, Photography and Archives.
