The Great Library & Museum Picture Hunt 2008

The Great Library & Museum Picture Hunt 29 Sept – 9 Oct

Explore the Library and Museum. How well do you really know them? Using a specially designed activity sheet children must locate objects and signs within the library and museum with only pictures to guide them. This programme was enormously popular with over two hundred children taking part over the 11 days of the competition. All of the completed forms were put into a draw with Jordan Ford (7yrs) and Marco Such (5yrs) both winning prize packs.

The children and parents were entertained with stories and songs while perched on woolley, multi-coloured islands in the gallery. The Fantasy Island Poster Competition 29 Sept – 8 Oct

Design your very own Island. What cool or creative things would your special island have and who would live there? This competition was open to all ages and was designed to tie into the Museum & Gallery exhibition ‘Nowhere Isles’ by Andrea du Chatenier.

We had a fantastic response to this competition with 24 entries and a wonderful selection of imaginative and individual islands to choose from. Due to the high quality of the entries we decided to award both a winner and a runner-up prize. The winner was Paige Pullar (8yrs) and the combined entry by Vincent & Tristen Smit (11yr & 9 yr) was chosen as runner-up.

Got it Sussed Exhibition

Got it sussed art workshop series. As part of the Got it sussed exhibition the Whakatane Museum & Gallery hosted a series of art workshops aimed at senior secondary art students. These gave insights to the certain techniques and processes that those attending could then apply to their own art practice. The workshops were Stencil Art by Zena Elliott, Graphics and T-shirts design by Manu Scott and Comic book techniques by Karl Chitham.
